Buckle up and prepare for a tale of adventure! Recently my friend Dawn and I embarked on a daring Bite-Size Adventure, boarding a tiny 37-seat plane destined for St. Anthony on the clear and blue skied morning of 19th. &nbsp;We were eager to dive into the heart of the bustling Food, Fibs &amp; Fiddles festival. Upon landing, we wasted no time and secured our rental car, ready to hit the road and explore the hidden gems of St. Anthony and the surrounding area. The scenery was breathtaking, and the thrill of the open road beckoned us as we cruised towards our home away from home for the next two nights, the welcoming Hotel North. With each passing kilometer, our excitement mounted, knowing that we were on the brink of two unforgettable evenings. The stage was set and we couldn’t imagine the magic that awaited us.Get ready for a rollicking review of Food, Fibs &amp; Fiddles at Gunners Cove, on July 19th &amp; 20th, 2024, the hidden gem on the Great Northern Peninsula of Newfoundland! Using land they owned with no previous purpose or use, they went to work transforming a bog into a perfect concert ground. Danny started listening to Blue Rodeo in 1987 and is now admittedly and unapologetically a lifelong addict with no plans for recovery! It was when I told him that the Friday night show would be my 40th Blue Rodeo concert since 1987 that he knew I had a problem too! &nbsp;It’s been his dream project to bring Blue Rodeo to Gunners Cove and his vision for this event was brilliant. Picture this... a venue reminiscent of carefree 90’s concerts, where VIP zones and endless queues were a thing of the past. The weather complied and food and drink were abundant. The stars aligned, and against all odds, Food Fibs &amp; Fiddles bloomed beautifully. Who would've guessed that a quaint community like Gunners Cove, NL, with population of 17 -25 people could pull off such a spectacular event? With the vision of Danny Pond and his tireless efforts, the atmosphere felt intimate, like a private gathering of friends. Night one sold out in a blink, and night two wasn't far behind, welcoming a sea of eager faces to soak up the talent on display. From the soul-stirring tunes and stories of Kellie Loder, to the dance-inducing Shannygannock, and the legend of Charlie Major, to the electrifying performance of Blue Rodeo, every note resonated with pure magic. The Parisian Gnocchi, adorned with mushrooms, ravigote, gruyere, and wilted greens, was a stunning creation that delighted the taste buds with its harmonious blend of flavours. **Dessert:**The chocolate cream puff served as a delectable conclusion to the meal, its generous portion making it ideal for sharing among the group. A satisfying sweet treat to wrap up an already impressive dining experience. **Atmosphere and Service:**Despite a busy evening, our server who was only on her second-shift at Rabble managed the hustle and bustle admirably, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable dining experience for the guests. The overall vibe and layout of the restaurant, with the kitchen located upstairs and the dining area and washrooms on the ground floor, added to the charm and uniqueness of the establishment. **Overall Impression:**Rabble Restaurant's menu diversity, reasonable pricing, and warm ambiance make it a standout destination in St. John’s downtown dining scene. Trust them to provide a memorable dining experience that your guests will talk about long after the event.Recently we were treated to some of Matt's home cooking, some of the dishes we tasted were mushroom risotto with cinnamon cap and lions mane mushrooms from the Newfoundland Mushroom Company. Next on the menu was a delicious dish of handmade gnocchi, with steamed bok choy greens and perfectly cooked monkfish. To finish we had the most tasty barolo braised beef with polenta and mushrooms and roasted carrots on white bean puree and dukkah. Matt makes it look easy but it isn't always easy, especially when there is a crowd. To end the evening we indulged in a passion fruit sabayon with fresh blackberries and raspberries. I can't end this post without mentioning the great beverages we had that night as well....we started off with a French 75, a gin based cocktail that was not just tasty but beautiful with its lavender colour that made it feel like Spring. The two wine selections of the evening were, surprisingly, a long time favourite of mine, Bersano Costalunga Barbera D'Asti with its garnet hue, spice and smoke, and plummy fruit flavours with good acidity and Tommasi Ripasso which was elegant and had smokey, floral, black plum preserve and spice.&nbsp;Matt also caters a to a family owned home in Carbonear that is available for vacation rentals. North 48 has over ten appetizer options that will be sure to appeal to everyone. Our Bite Size Adventure began with two delectable appetizers. The Butternut Squash Poquitos offered a unique and delightful twist on traditional poquitos while the Crispy Calamari impressed us all with its perfect texture, light crispy coating and overall flavour. Our dining experience continued with a selection of really beautifully plated dishes served piping hot from the kitchen. The 12-ounce Ribeye Steak showcased expert preparation, served alongside crispy french fries and fresh asparagus with garlic butter, creating a punch of satisfying flavours. The Stacked Cheeseburger and fresh cut fries impressed with an authentic charbroiled taste and the sheer size of the meal which totally surpassed expectation. Finally, the Tuscan Chicken, a dish bursting with a delicious blend of garlic, sun-dried tomatoes, spinach, cream, and parmesan cheese, was packed with flavour and accompanied by perfectly roasted potatoes and a grilled vegetable medley. They also offer a unique variety of main dishes, pasta dishes, appetizers and desserts. Their menu offers a myriad of options to choose from. To complement our meals, we indulged in two expertly crafted cocktails. The Strawberry Jalapeño Margarita balanced sweet and sour notes with a tantalizing kick of spice…so very refreshing, while the very very well-garnished Caesar cocktail with its attention to detail and taste. I’m always happy to see signature drinks on a menu because it allows the opportunity to taste drinks I may have never heard about before. All of the signature cocktails are unique and look delicious, next time a Blueberry Fog is on my list to try for sure! The attentive and knowledgeable service provided by Dave our server enhanced our dining experience at North 48. Dave's expertise and recommendations added a personal touch to our meal, reflecting the excellent service standards at North 48. &nbsp;I think the east end of St. John’s absolutely needed a standout eatery, and, in my opinion it got one! No parking issues here either the parking lot is right in front of the restaurant and a just a hop, skip and a jump to the front door. North 48 is a great place for group or family dinners or just to meet a friend for lunch. Oh yes… their lunch menu boasts all mains for $19.50, it’s quick convenient and downright delicious as it says right on their website!
